New Edition of Technical Guidelines

with Corrugated Structural Steel and Fire Protection of Sprinkler Pipes

The Rockwool Marine & Offshore Technical Guidelines gives you detailed and practical information about our excellent insulation solutions and products. We are therefore pleased to introduce the new and fourth edition of the Technical Guidelines which now contains two new solutions:
  • Corrugated Structural Steel
  • Fire Protection of Sprinkler Pipes

Corrugated Structural Steel

In some projects the standard IMO structural core is replaced with a light structural core consisting of a corrugated steel plate. To ease the insulation Rockwool Marine & Offshore has got an assessment from DBI (Danish Fire Institute) which allows insulation using our standard fire rated constructions without filling out the corrugation. The assessments are valid for A-60 Bulkhead fire rated constructions as follows:

  • Rockwool Marine Wired Mat 105, 75 mm, 1 layer
  • Rockwool Marine Wired Mat 90, 45 mm, 2 layer
  • Rockwool Marine Firebatts 130, 30 mm, 2 layer
  • Rockwool Marine Firebatts 100, 60 mm, 1 layer

Fire protection of sprinkler pipes

Seen in the light of the increasing sizes of passenger ships and growing number of passengers, a new amendment to SOLAS regulation „Safe return to port“ is applicable to all passenger ships built on or after 1st July 2010 stating that sprinkler pipes on passenger vessels need to remain operational in case of fire. The amendment is valid for:
  • All passenger ships of 120 meter or more.
  • All passenger ships having three or more main vertical zones.
  • Als applicable for Ropax vessels and large offshore accommodations.

To fulfil the requirement Rockwool Marine & Offshore has introduced a Pipe Section called Rockwool Marine Firebatts 100 PS. This product may be used not only for thermal insulation but also for fire protection according to IMO FTP code.
